The potato is one of the most comforting things a human being can eat.
Mashed, boiled, roasted, barely seasoned or loaded with everything. There is almost no version of it that people find unpleasant. It requires almost no translation across languages, cultures, or centuries.
But France almost never learned to love it.
For most of the 18th century, the potato was widely scorned in France. Considered peasant food at best and animal fodder at worst, it was officially banned in some regions on suspicion of causing disease. Hard to imagine, given what French cooking would eventually do with it.
Then a military pharmacist named Antoine-Augustin Parmentier ate almost nothing else for several years.
Captured during the Seven Years' War, Parmentier was held as a Prussian prisoner where potatoes were the standard ration. When the war ended, he returned to France with a conviction: this overlooked vegetable could feed a nation.
The problem was persuasion.

Cardinal Müller: "The Old Rite Is Not Forbidden"

On July 6, Cardinal Müller spoke with K-TV about the Traditional Latin Mass and the FSSPX episcopal consecrations. Key statements:
- "The implementation of the liturgical reform was marked by many abuses because many failed to grasp the spirit of the renewed liturgy and neglected its essential elements: the worship of God, the communication of salvation, and reverence before God."
- "The so-called old rite is not forbidden. Rather, it is permitted to a certain extent and under certain conditions, and it is, of course, valid."
- "Pope Benedict XVI made the wise decision that the same Latin liturgy could be celebrated in both its ordinary and extraordinary forms."
- "The faithful always have the opportunity to attend the Holy Mass celebrated according to the older form."
- "Many people may have sympathies for the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X because they believe that the Catholic faith and the liturgy are being preserved there against many of the abuses found in modernist circles.…More

English broadcaster Alex Phillips says the UK's open borders policies are rooted in Fabian Society and UN documents promoting "replacement migration". She argues that despite rhetoric about closing borders, the government is deliberately facilitating "inundations" of migrants as outlined in these documents.

Tibetan Rituals in a U.S. Church. Worse than Germany: On Monday, more than 60 Tibetans gathered at Most Holy Redeemer Church in Hadley, Massachusetts, to celebrate the Dalai Lama's 91st birthday and mark the conclusion of the "Year of Compassion," an initiative of the Central Tibetan Administration. The event opened with a ritual in which participants chanted "Om" three times and tossed tsampa (barley flour) into the air. Attendees also made mandala offerings by bowing and placing a white ceremonial scarf before a photo of the Dalai Lama. The celebration continued with speeches, traditional Tibetan songs and dances, and performances by students from a local Tibetan Sunday school.

Celebrating compassion, preserving culture

HADLEY — Arranged in a semicircle at the Most Holy Redeemer Church parking lot on Monday, Tibetans took a deep breath of juniper-scented air, raised the flour pinched between their fingers and let out their breath in a long, harmonious “om.” As soon as the third sacred chant ended, they tossed the barley flour, known as tsampa, into the air to create small clouds of joy. The ritual marked the beginning of western Massachusetts’ observance of the 14th Dalai Lama’s 91st birthday. More than 60 Tibetans gathered at the Regional Tibetan Association of Massachusetts event to enjoy Tibetan song and dance, connect over a meal and conclude the Year of Compassion — a call to action by Central Tibetan Administration encouraging acts of generosity and care around the world. Book of Hosea 8,4-7.11-13.
Thus says the LORD: They made kings, but not by my authority; they established princes, but without my approval. With their silver and gold they made idols for themselves, to their own destruction.
Cast away your calf, O Samaria! my wrath is kindled against them; How long will they be unable to attain innocence in Israel?
The work of an artisan no god at all, Destined for the flames-- such is the calf of Samaria!
When they sow the wind, they shall reap the whirlwind; The stalk of grain that forms no ear can yield no flour; Even if it could, strangers would swallow it.
When Ephraim made many altars to expiate sin, his altars became occasions of sin.
Though I write for him my many ordinances, they are considered as a stranger's.
Though they offer sacrifice, immolate flesh and eat it, the LORD is not pleased with them. He shall still remember their guilt and punish their sins; they shall return to Egypt.

Buch Hosea 8,4-7.11-13.

Cardinal Rouco Varela: No Excessive Regulations for Roman Rite Catholics

“We must put an end to liturgical abuses that contradict the teachings of the Second Vatican Council,” Cardinal Antonio María Rouco Varela, 89, Archbishop Emeritus of Madrid, told LaNuovaBq.it on July 7.
Furthermore, he called for “understanding for those who wish to attend the older rite” and for “respect for the freedom of the faithful within the communion of the Church” - that is, “not by imposing excessive regulations.”
He described Pope Benedict XVI’s Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum (July 7, 2007) as “a very understanding and balanced measure, and I think it was a good one.” He added: “In Madrid there is still a church where the traditional rite is celebrated.”
German Bishops Acting Against the Church
On the German Synodal Way, Cardinal Rouco Varela said that “canon law has been stretched beyond its limits” and warned that the situation “affects the fundamental aspects of the faith.”

Turin Parish Holds Funeral for Muslim. Worse than Germany: On 3 July, the body of an Iranian Muslim was brought to Sant'Anna parish in Turin for a ceremony led by the parish priest, Don Valter Danna. The service included Christian prayers and the use of incense. Don Danna said it was not a Catholic funeral but rather a "prayer of farewell," explaining that the family had close ties to the parish. He confirmed that the ceremony was intentionally distinguished from a Catholic funeral.

CATHOLIC DOCTRINE TEACHES:
CCC 1184 "Ecclesiastical funeral rites are to be denied, unless the deceased gave some signs of repentance before death:
1. to notorious apostates, heretics, or schismatics;

3. to other manifest sinners, to whom ecclesiastical funeral rites cannot be granted without public scandal to the faithful."
Can. 1185 Any funeral Mass must also be denied to a person excluded from ecclesiastical funeral rites.
