The book was written by Peruvian author Santiago Roncagliolo and is sympathetic toward Leo XIV. Lute was investigated so poorly under Bishop Robert Prevost of Chiclayo that the case remained unresolved. After becoming Pope, Leo XIV granted Lute’s request for laicization in September 2025. Rizkallah previously received funding from billionaire, Jewish activist Paul Singer and is currently affiliated with the “Tikvah Fund.” Rizkallah said in the article Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs wanted to “design a trip specifically for Catholic leaders, [so] it made sense that they would reach out to us.”
