NYTIMES: Greenland Is Only the Beginning. Trump Has His Sights Set on Europe. Jan. 9, 2026 nytimes.com/2026/01/09/opinion/denmark-europe- … Mr. Kirchick is a contributing Opinion writer and the author of “The End of Europe: Dictators, Demagogues, and the Coming Dark Age.” The original purpose of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, according to its founding secretary general, Lord Hastings Ismay, was “to keep the Russians out, the Americans in, and the Germans down.” Over 75 years after the alliance’s creation, keeping the Russians out remains its primary objective. But thanks to President Trump’s increasingly bellicose threats to seize Greenland from fellow NATO member Denmark, the suitability of keeping America in the coalition may soon seem as plausible as the prospect of German military hegemony returning to Europe. Mr. Trump’s campaign to conquer Greenland began during the post-election 2024 transition period when he refused to rule out the use of military force, later …More
US will do something on Greenland 'whether they like it or not Trump on Friday continued to press for U.S. control of Greenland, telling reporters: "We are going to do something on Greenland whether they like it or not." "Because if we don't do it, Russia or China will take over Greenland, and we're not going to have Russia or China as a neighbor," Trump said as he hosted oil executives at the White House to discuss investments in Venezuela. The president has repeatedly said he wants to take over Greenland either by buying the autonomous island territory or by using military force, calling it a matter of national security despite fierce pushback from Greenland, Denmark and European allies. US military is 'always an option' for Trump to acquire Greenland, White House official says "Greenland is not for sale. I think our Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and our Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt has made it very, very clear. Our country belongs to the Greenlandic people," Jacob …More
Saint Adrian of Canterbury | The Scholar Who Shaped the English Church (January 9) Saint Adrian of Canterbury, also known as Hadrian, is commemorated on January 9 as one of the most influential yet humble figures in the early English Church. Originally from North Africa, Adrian was a highly educated monk fluent in Scripture, theology, and classical learning. Despite his immense knowledge, he consistently chose humility over prominence. In the 7th century, Pope Saint Vitalian invited Adrian to become Archbishop of Canterbury. Aware of his limitations and seeking God’s will, Adrian declined and instead recommended Saint Theodore of Tarsus for the role. Adrian then accompanied Theodore to England and served as Abbot of the Monastery of Saints Peter and Paul in Canterbury, becoming a foundational teacher of the English Church. Under his guidance, the monastery became a centre of learning unmatched in Western Europe at the time. Adrian taught Scripture, theology, Greek, Latin, astronomy, …More
The Synod on Synodality was an “ironclad manipulation,” Cardinal Joseph Zen, 93, said in his three-minute intervention at the consistory held January 7–8. The text of his speech was published on the Substack account of Edward Pentin CardinalNews.Substack.com. Prior to the consistory, Cardinal Zen was received in private audience by Pope Leo XIV. Synod’s Invocation of the Holy Spirit Verges on Blasphemy In his intervention, Cardinal Zen criticized the late Pope Francis and the synodal process he initiated: “The ironclad manipulation of the process is an insult to the dignity of the Bishops, and the continual reference to the Holy Spirit is ridiculous and almost blasphemous.” Francis, he said, expected “surprises” from the Holy Spirit. Cardinal Zen responded: “What surprises? That He should repudiate what He inspired in the Church’s two-thousand-year Tradition?” Cardinal Zen noted that Francis bypassed the Episcopal College, listened directly to selected members of the laity, and …More

First Letter of John 5,14-21. Beloved: We have this confidence in him that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, we know that what we have asked him for is ours. If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly. We know that no one begotten by God sins; but the one begotten by God he protects, and the evil one cannot touch him. We know that we belong to God, and the whole world is under the power of the evil one. We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us discernment to know the one who is true. And we are in the one who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. Children, be on your guard against idols. Psalms 149(…More

NYTIMES:After Watergate, the Presidency Was Tamed. Trump Is Unleashing It. In the 1970s, Congress passed a raft of laws to hold the White House accountable. President Trump has decided they don’t apply to him. nytimes.com/…/us/politics/president-trump- … Jan. 2, 2026 A power-hungry president had twisted the government into a tool for his personal political benefit. His aides kept an “enemies list” of opponents to be punished. His cronies ran the Justice Department and he made puppets of other agencies that were meant to be independent. Corporations that wanted favorable treatment from the White House were pressured to make illegal contributions to the president’s political coffers. As revelations of rot in the Nixon administration tumbled out through the 1970s, Senator Lawton Chiles, Democrat of Florida, captured the alarm of the Watergate era: “Nothing will bring the Republic to its knees so quickly as a bone-deep mistrust of the government by its own people,” he said. “We have …More

The Light the Darkness Cannot Overcome The darkness covering the earth and the mist obscuring people’s vision are contrasted with the grace given to the Magi, allowing them to seek and worship the newborn King. This grace, a gift from God, enables individuals to recognize and desire truth, despite the prevalent darkness and rejection of goodness and righteousness in the world. The darkness of the world is increasing, but the light of God will always prevail. We must choose to be the light, even in the face of persecution, by relying on God’s grace and allowing His light to shine through us. This means living our faith with charity, mercy, and compassion, remembering that we were once in darkness ourselves. Fr. Altier’s Daily Homilies Fr. Minnesota Diocese Gives ‘Ad Orientem’ Worship a Shot: Unlike the Traditional Latin Mass, which refers to the form of the Roman Rite prior to the reforms of Vatican II, ad orientem is a posture that can be used in the celebration of the post-conciliar Mass.
JANUARY 10 2026 THE GOSPEL breski1 Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 3,22-30. Jesus and his disciples went into the region of Judea, where he spent some time with them baptizing. John was also baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was an abundance of water there, and people came to be baptized, for John had not yet been imprisoned. Now a dispute arose between the disciples of John and a Jew about ceremonial washings. So they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, the one who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you testified, here he is baptizing and everyone is coming to him." John answered and said, "No one can receive anything except what has been given him from heaven. You yourselves can testify that I said (that) I am not the Messiah, but that I was sent before him. The one who has the bride is the bridegroom; the best man, who stands and listens for him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. So this joy of mine has been made complete. He must …More
Related: before the Universal Flood, we didn't need to eat meat (and weren't allowed to). But the Flood changed everything to be much worse than before... Now we can't stay healthy without eating meat/fish. We should be aware of that fact! (Anyone telling you otherwise has been brainwashed...)
