It is a truism that when words are applied too broadly, they lose their meaning. Words must be delimited; this is precisely what a definition does. Yet in our hyper-nominalistic, postmodern culture, power “defines” words by applying them to whatever serves its interests. The word suffers—and so do those affected by it.
Sadly, “antisemitism” has become one of these abused terms. Of course, no one—especially Catholics—can defend the violation of the human rights of Jewish individuals (or any individuals). But this does not entail agreement with Jewish doctrine as such. This confusion stems from the postmodern mentality which asserts that disagreement is violence, because there is no truth—only the imposition of those in power.
