I fedeli laici, chierici, religiosi e studenti, profondamente legati alla missione ecclesiale e accademica del Pontificio Ateneo Sant’Anselmo, desiderano sottoporre all’attenzione del Dicastero per la Cultura e l’Educazione una formale richiesta di intervento circa la posizione accademica del prof. Andrea Grillo, docente presso il medesimo Ateneo. La presente petizione nasce da una preoccupazione ecclesiale: quella di garantire ai fedeli, agli studenti e alle comunità monastiche che sostengono l’Ateneo una formazione realmente “aderente alla dottrina della Chiesa”, come richiesto espressamente dagli Statuti... ... The lay faithful, clerics, religious and students, who are deeply attached to the ecclesial and academic mission of the Pontifical Athenaeum of Sant’Anselmo, wish to submit to the attention of the Dicastery for Culture and Education a formal request for intervention concerning the academic position of Prof. Andrea Grillo, a lecturer at the same Athenaeum. This petition arises from an ecclesial concern: that of guaranteeing to the faithful, to the students and to the monastic communities that support the Athenaeum a formation that is truly “in conformity with the doctrine of the Church”, as expressly required by the Statutes... ... In virtue of what has been set out above, the undersigned request that: the Grand Chancellor and the Rector order a formal verification of the doctrinal suitability of Prof. Andrea Grillo, in the light of his writings and public interventions, in particular on: the ordination of women and ordained ministries; Eucharistic doctrine and popular devotion; his relationship with the Magisterium and with the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. Such verification should take place by means of the instruments provided for by the Statutes and by canon law, including – if necessary – the appointment of a Commission to examine in a systematic way the writings and public statements of Prof. Grillo, while at the same time guaranteeing his right to present clarifications and defences. Should it emerge, at the conclusion of the investigation, that the positions and conduct of Prof. Grillo are not compatible with: the integrity of doctrine required by Art. 18 §1; the full communion with the authentic Magisterium of the Church required by Art. 20 §3; that his removal from the office of professor at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Sant’Anselmo be carried out, in accordance with the law, in application of cann. 810 §1 and 818 CIC and of the Statutes of the Athenaeum...
