Today, the Vatican press speaker Matteo Bruni published a statement addressing recent media reports about a January meeting between Pentagon officials and then US Nuncio Christophe Cardinal Pierre. Bruni claims that the portrayal of the meeting in certain media “does not correspond to the truth in any way." He emphasized that the meeting was routine and part of the nuncio’s regular diplomatic responsibilities. Cardinal Pierre’s discussion with Elbridge Andrew Colby at the Pentagon was simply "an opportunity to exchange views on matters of mutual interest".
