I don't know... If someone says they are more concerned with offending God than fearing hell makes me think they're not really convinced what they are risking! I understand and agree that the hope is that we will move toward perfect contrition. But an act of perfect contrition seems to not be possible if we aren't convinced of the fires of hell. This post just came up on my feed. Actually the Vatican website link provided does show the Vatican calls this coin a depiction of the Mother of the Earth with "eternal" stature....
It's frightening and bizarre, and clearly reflects a hat tip to Pachamama -- that can't be denied.
Here is what the Vatican website says:
"The Vatican City State Mint will issue a 10 euro silver coin made by Maestro Oldani, depicting a mother carrying the earth in her womb, to whom we owe care and love as if it were a daughter, with long ears of wheat in her hair, in a reference between past and future that becomes timeless, and therefore eternal."
This is not about human motherhood at all. It's about a "mother carrying the earth in her womb"....!!! Exactly how Pachamama is portrayed. The Vatican certainly wouldn't be so brazen as to call it that -- but that's certainly what is depicted.
