Early Christian Communion in the Hand - Church Life …
@chris griffin Of course, since our Lord told the Apostles to take the chalice of His Blood just after supper, then any sort of Eucharistic fast is also a similar disobedience of our Lord, isn't it?
@occasnltrvlr...I don't understand your point. Jesus issue verse 26 then immediately issues verses 27-28...27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
There is no mention of a fast or any disobedience. I don't know what you point is.
You are like a dog with a bone with no meat on it! The University of Notre Dame - that den of heresy! Look fella, you are completely and utterly wrong about Communion in the hand - WRONG! You are actually promoting the desecration on the Holy Eucharist, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is amazing that you are so hung up on the words "Take and eat" and not "This is my Body" and "This is the Chalice of my Blood". Maybe if you can get through your brain fog and meditate/reflect on those words and Who it is that says them you just might let go of the bone that you are growling on. By the way, Communion in the hand was not common and standard in the early centuries of the Church. Laudetur Iesus Christus!
@Beatus Vir...I see you have not yet recovered from rabies that is making you like a mad dog. Get professional help.
@chris griffin Woof! Woof! Woof! Growl! Go bury your bone in a very deep hole and yourself along with it. Just stop promoting the desecration of the Holy Eucharist!
@ Instaurare Omnia in Christo and @john333 Yall seem to be unteachable, so I bring the University of Notre Dame to teach you the truth. Hopefully you will respond to truth with truth.
Proponents of receiving Communion in the hand may argue that Jesus said, “Take this, all of you.” This argument is flawed for two reasons. First, when speaking these words at the Last Supper, Jesus was speaking only to his Apostles, who He had consecrated as priests of the new covenant.[23] Thus, this cannot be seen as an instruction for the laity to receive Communion with unconsecrated hands. Second, the Vulgate translates the Greek term lambanein with the Latin word accipere.[24] Bishop Schneider explains, “It is commonly used in the Holy Scripture in the same sense as receiving, not taking. For example, when Our Lord breathed on the Apostles saying Receive ye the Holy Spirit,” it is the same word accipere. Nobody would say “take the Holy Spirit.” Accipite Spiritum Sanctum means “receive the Holy Spirit.”[25] Further emphasis for this concept of receiving holy food can be found in scripture. The profit Ezekiel tells us, “Open thy mouth, and eat what I give thee.” (Ezek. 2:8 DR). In the Psalms we read, “Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.” (Ps. 80:11, DR).[26]
