A Christian of unknown denomination has become the patron of a new Catholic parish in Texas. Bishop Michael Olson of Fort Worth has announced the creation of a parish in Arlington named after Matthew Ayariga, a Ghanaian killed by ISIS in Libya in 2015. Ayariga was abducted alongside 20 Egyptian Coptic Christians. On February 15, 2015, ISIS executed all 21 men on a Libyan beach. According to accounts of the event, when Ayariga was asked about his faith, he replied, “Their God is my God.” The Coptic Orthodox group canonized all 21 victims shortly after their deaths. In 2023, Francis announced that the 21 martyrs would also be added to the Roman Martyrology.

On August 17, Saint Mary’s College in Indiana, a Catholic women’s college sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Cross, published new details about PROCLAIM, a 22-month program training Catholic women to preach. The organizers say they “invited and received the support” of Bishop Kevin Rhoades of Fort Wayne–South Bend - considered "conservative". The first cohort has 27 women, who gathered in June for their first in-person intensive. The program received a $1.25 million grant from Lilly Endowment, a private philanthropic foundation, and provides courses, coaching, preaching circles and practical preaching exercises.

The final programme for the annual Rome pilgrimage of the Traditional Roman Rite (23–25 October) has been announced. However, there is a notable change this year: the pilgrims will enter St Peter's Basilica at 1 p.m. to pray, but there will be no Mass. Instead, pilgrims will travel to the Basilica of St Mary Major, where Bishop Athanasius Schneider will celebrate Mass at 3 p.m. On Friday evening, Bishop Schneider will preside over Pontifical Vespers at the Pantheon. Unlike in previous years, no cardinal is scheduled to celebrate the principal liturgies. On Sunday, the traditional Feast of Christ the King, Masses will be held at San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini, Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini and Sant’Anna al Laterano. On 7 September, Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller addressed the “Tavola di Assisi 2026”: “Islam… is not ashamed of God, it is not ashamed of transcendence, but it proposes an anthropology and a revelation radically different from the Christian ones.” Invoking St Francis of Assisi’s encounter with Sultan al-Malik al-Kamil, Müller rejected the modern portrayal of Francis as a precursor of interreligious dialogue: “Francis did not go to Egypt to open a diplomatic salon and confirm the Sultan in his faith.” Instead, he went convinced that Jesus Christ is the only Savior. For Cardinal Müller, calling Muslims to conversion is “not an act of hostility… on the contrary, it is the highest act of charity.” He also warned that the Christian West is not “simply threatened by external forces, but is being worn down by an internal apostasy.”

On 6 September, the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX) was denied entry to the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi. The group had planned to conclude their annual pilgrimage with public prayer inside the basilica. Individual pilgrims were permitted to enter privately or in small groups. The group therefore remained outside and concluded their pilgrimage in the basilica square. Father Gabriele D’Avino, head of the FSSPX in Italy, drew a contrast between this decision and the interreligious gathering in Assisi on 27 October, for which representatives of different religions and Christian denominations are expected to attend the 40th anniversary of the 1986 World Day of Prayer for Peace.
