Sylvia Arrives in the Vatican: A specially trained Harris hawk named Sylvia with a wingspan of 120cm has joined the Vatican to help protect the pope's doves by scaring off predators. In the past at least two Pontifical doves were killed in front of horrified crowds by a crow and seagull. Sylvia was specially trained for the task in northern Italy and is taken care by the Swiss Guard.

Fr Reid called on his flock to offer up additional penance during Lent as "reparation for the terrible sins against charity that have been committed in this sad situation." He suggested confession for those who let their anger morph into – quote - "hate-filled tirades and malicious and calumnious accusations.”

Stealing the Show: Father Ray Kelly burst into a blistering version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah before the final prayer during a wedding in Oldcastle, County Meath, stunning the audience. "I like to sing. Music is part of the family, it's always been in the genes," he said. He is well known throughout the parish for his songs at weddings or funerals of while celebrating mass on Sunday. Fr Kelly will celebrate his 25th year as a priest this year. He joined the priesthood later in life, after working as a civil servant in Dublin for more than a decade.
