Ceremonial: Today, Friday, Pope Francis will receive Barack Obama. This will be the 28th encounter between a Pope and a U.S. president. John Paul II alone had 15 such encounters. Observers believe that today’s meeting will be little more than ceremonial avoiding hot topics.

A Brave Bishop: In his most recent pastoral letter Bishop James Conley of Lincoln contemplates the disruptive immorality of contraception. For him Paul VI’s 1968 encyclical Humanae Vitae, which rejected contraception was – quote - “good news for all Catholics, since we know that the contraceptive mentality has been so pervasive and so devastating.”

Pressure: Pope Francis has dismissed Limburg bishop Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst who was successfully labelled by the media as a - quote – bling bishop. The powerful liberal wing of the German bishops has lobbied strongly to have Tebartz eliminated. Recently, the private secretary of Benedict XVI, archbishop Georg Gänswein, admitted that the German bishops exercise heavy pressure on the Vatican.

Double Moral Standard: Limburg Bishop Tebarts-van Elst was dismissed for having used 31 Million Euros for the renovation of a diocesan complex that comprised more than 10 buildings, many of them of historical value. At the same time the Munich archdiocese constructs in the expensive centre of Munich a diocesan service centre that will at least cost 130 Million Euros. The place was bought seven years ago for 85 Million Euros. Munich Cardinal Reinhard Marx has not been criticized for the enterprise because he pleases the anticlerical media with his liberal views.

In germany, France and in fact everywhere in the occidental countries, if you are resisting the culture of death, you become automatically a person to be destroyed. …More
