Immaculate Virgin Mother of God.

"I know not how to praise you, holy and immaculate Virgin. Heaven itself cannot contain the One whom you bore in your womb. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Heaven itself cannot contain the One whom you bore in your womb" - Matins responsory for 1 January, the feast of Mary, Mother of God. This luminous icon - one of the most beautiful I've ever seen - is of Our Lady, the Madonna of San Sisto, and it dates to the early 6th century, and is considered miraculous. May she grace our new year of 2011, and bless all our days that we may walk in God's presence, and at our final end join her in His kingdom.

Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Dominus tecum.

Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus
nunc et in hora mortis nostrae.
Amen.
